READ IT BECAUSE...

After catching up on A Good Day to Be a Dog and True Beauty I needed to read something to help the emptiness of not being able to read more. —- And now (August 2020) I reread and caught up to chapter 98.

THE REVIEW

It’s so goodddd. Enjelicious’s artwork is <33. Also, Kenny also wrote some bgm tracks for this webtoon so it’s awesome (the later half of the chapters don’t have much music). Right off the bat, I loved her artwork. I’m not so used to non-(Japanese) anime looking artwork/western comic types, so this was exactly what I was looking for—perfect mesh of pretty drawings but also silly/chibi/ridiculous facial expressions too. This has a good balance of both!

Age Matters is a webtoon that has to deal with age. (Although the concept, ideally is being more accepted, I suppose that there are still stereotypes—especially in Asia—about age.) Specifically, women getting older, aka reaching 30. (I think that’s like a huge milestone for a lot of people… I mean, I’m turning 30.. but I don’t feel old is the thing. But I guess—especially in Asia—people talk about women’s eggs and junk… But in the Western world, now, we hope, it’s coming to the point where it’s starting to be less marked for a woman to NOT want (to have) children. Honestly, people should be able to do what they want (in terms of having kids). But unfortunately, that’s not how it works all the time.

Rose Choi is 29-years-old, and just split with her boyfriend (I forgot.. did he cheat on her.. sorry it was a while ago. But anyway, it wasn’t an amicable split.) She goes to live with her friend Yura, but then Yura leaves with her boyfriend. This leaves Rose to apartmentsit and she ends up having to take over Yura’s job as a maid? for her neighbor. She has to prepare for and clean for him. At first she doesn’t know who he is (Yura doesn’t either), but we slowly find out that the is Daniel, the CEO of LIME Corp (yes, a play on LINE, the messaging app). Over time, Rose ends up becoming friends-enough with him and he hires her as his secretary at LIME. Things happen (hahaha great Huay :D) and they slowly start to have feelings for each other.

Of course, we can’t forget the mysterious pink-haired Ruby, who seems to have some intimate relationship with Daniel. Then there’s also the beautiful model, Via, who (honestly, I didn’t reread the first like 40 chapters so I sort of forgot what the deal with her is) also likes Daniel. Via’s friend, another model, Dylan, also seems like a rival for Daniel… and there’s some competition going on (in terms of work/business and for Rose’s attention) with Akira, the CEO of a gaming company. Will Rose and Daniel end up happily ever after, with all of these players in the game? Read Age Matters to find out!

SPOILERS

(highlight below to read)

In the chapters leading up to Season 1’s finale, the LIME gang is invited to a private party on an island by a secret host. During this party, we get to see Dylan and Rose pair up in a volleyball competition, and Rose getting a makeover to be a fill-in model for Cindy (to participate in a photoshoot with Dylan).

Also, someone, Steven Kim, expresses interest in Rose, randomly, for the first time in her life. She’s a little flattered although taken aback by how strong he comes off. Allthewhile, Daniel is watching from nearby as always, feeling jealous hahaha. So cute ;_;.

And then Cindy gets attacked (and we’re led to think that it was Ruby’s doing)… but we later find out that it’s Ruby’s dad who was the host of this event. Ruby’s dad seems to be some big wig and has a lot of power over Daniel and LIME. Anyway, we found out that Ruby’s dad is junk and has been sending people to go after his own daughter, because he thinks that Daniel likes Ruby?? But then the target changed—and there’s someone after Rose, because she was rumored to be going out with him. And then at that moment, Daniel realizes who Steven Kim is—and he starts to search for Rose frantically. At that same moment (but of course), Steven Kim meets Rose again and leads her to a creepy backstage place and starts to intimidate her before she attacks him and runs. She finds Ruby (and Pommie) and they try to defend themselves. Finally Daniel comes (although also gets hurt), and then Dylan also comes to help (at the same time that he should be doing the runway show). Dylan chases after Steven, the hit man hired by Ruby’s father, before beating him up in front of crowds of people, recording on their phones, and sacrificing his career as a model.

Also Dylan has a son? (Skye).

Daniel also got injected by some drug/tranquilizer and would’ve OD’ed if his coat wasn’t so thick hahaha. He collapsed, and woke up with Rose next to him about 2 days later. She leads him to the rooftop where everyone is waiting for his recovery. While fireworks go off in the sky, DO THEY KISS??

So glad that that wasn’t MY season finale (since I binge-read it through till 98). At the end of this season, however, we see Ruby’s father having some secret conversation with someone.. And that someone says something about taking someone back.. ROSE!!! Dun dun dun.

In the beginning of the second season, we see a person who has seemingly been stalking Rose—I thought it was the ex (but that’s probably who Ruby’s dad was talking to), but it’s Rose’s brother. Ruby helps Dylan get a job at LIME. Dylan and Skye stay with Daniel sometimes, and Ruby visits Rose sometimes, so (although reluctantly) they’re all starting to be friends.

We still don’t know what happened with Dylan and Via…. they’ve been super avoidant of each other, even though Dylan just loves her, and Via only sees him as a friend and is a gold digger with older men…

</spoilers>
